Historic auditorium seats available from Ogden HS

Posted by kirk in Weber County , theaters , sustainability , school , salvage , Ogden , how to rehab , for sale

Ogden High School auditorium seats are seeking a good home.  They would prefer another historic auditorium, but a non-profit, historic theater would be a great second choice as well.

As you may know, Ogden High School is currently undergoing an $65 million restoration, so any organization that can purchase these historic seats will have first preference and should make their desire known immediately.  Should a fledgling non-profit or school that is otherwise in the midst of restoring a historic theater or auditorium space and could use donated seats, the Ogden School District and Foundation will look at your proposals on a case-by-case basis.

Contact Gary Reed at the Ogden School District, 801.737.7311 / reedg@ogdensd.org, with your needs and your proposal.

Great Development Opportunity: Draper Park School

Posted by kirk in school , Salt Lake County , issues , for sale , economics , Draper , compatible infill , adaptive use

Picture12As many of you know, Draper has been a center of growth with many popular destinations.  It seems like 123rd South grows leaps and bounds every time I go there from Salt Lake.  There has been an admirable job with respect to historic preservation in the city and within walking distance of the new Draper Town Center will be the new future UTA Trax Stop at the old IFA site which will include an interpretive element about the community's agricultural history with regards to chicken farming.

Within walking distance to here is the Draper Park School.  Owned by the city, it was built in 1912 and is currently offered with it's site for redevelopment, which could include rehabilitation as part of a mixed use transit-oriented development.  Proposals are due by December 1st.  The Park School has had several additions to it over the years, enlarging it and was eventually named for John Rockey Park, the first president of the University of Utah for whom the Park Building at the U is also named on President's Circle.  Park School was eventually used as Draper's City Hall until the city built their most recent building and vacated the structure.

As the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, there are opportunities to reuse Park School and utilize the historic rehab tax credits.  More information on the credits can be found here and here.

UPDATED: Odd Fellows For Sale: One Day Auction July 28

Posted by kirk in Salt Lake County , Salt Lake City , news , issues , for sale , events

14_North_Facade_main_entrance_arch_resizedNow that the Odd Fellows Hall has been successfully relocated to its new site, across the street from its old site on Market Street in downtown Salt Lake City, the U.S. General Services Administration is set to find a new owner for the building and its adjacent property.

Built in 1891, the National Register-listed building is a rare example of the Romanesque Revival style of architecture.  At the south end of Main Street with proximity to both the state and federal courthouses and the Broadway theater district, its uses are extremely open to serving as office space, restaurant and entertainment, retail, or mixed uses.

On July 28, the GSA is holding a live auction at the Salt Lake City Hampton Inn (425 South 300 West) and via internet to find the new owner.  Registration for the auction starts at 9:00 a.m. and the auction starts at 11:00 a.m.  No matter what the possibilities for development, there is a distinct likelihood that obtaining Odd Fellows could come at a great bargain to the highest bidder.
