POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Traditional Building Skills Institute Director

 

Applications will be reviewed beginning on May 1, 2010 and continuing until filled. Start date negotiable, but preferably on July 1, 2010.

 

The Traditional Building Skills Institute (TBSI) is an academic department of Snow College. Snow College is the oldest public, two-year college west of the Mississippi. Its main campus is situated in rural Sanpete County, two hours south of Salt Lake City. The County is known for its many pioneer buildings, including rock homes, churches and commercial buildings. It is also known for its artists and artisans. Snow College has a strong tradition in the fine arts and construction trade programs.

 

The main objective of the Traditional Building Skills Institute is to further the art of traditional building skills for the purpose of restoring and preserving historic buildings. These traditional skills can also be used in new construction. TBSI offers a selection of three-day workshops that employ instruction and hands-on experience taught by widely recognized craftsmen. Workshops are designed for architects, builders, contractors, trades people, students, educators and homeowners. The workshops cover such topics as adobe restoration, historic masonry, decorative plaster, log cabin restoration, timber framing, wood carving, stone carving and restoration, wood furniture, gravestone restoration and conservation and stained glass. The College offers an associate of applied sciences degree in Traditional Building Skills.

 

Snow College is searching for a director who can provide vision and energy to build TBSI programs, shape its future and advocate for restoration and preservation. The director must have excellent organizational skills and a passion for historic restoration and preservation. Salary will be commensurate with experience and credentials.

 

Minimum Qualifications:                                         

Bachelors Degree (Masters Degree Preferred)             

History or training or experience in Restoration and Preservation                                             

Evidence of organizational skills                              

 

Major Responsibilities:

Recruit students to TBSI programs

Development and Fundraising

Work with TBSI Advisory Board

Supervise limited staff assistance

Teach workshops (if qualified)

Supervise training workshops
