Spring City Heritage Day Celebration

A historic homes tour, fine art, and antiques highlight the annual Spring City Heritage Day Celebration on Saturday, May 23 from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Homes Tour tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children and are on sale at the Old Spring City School and the Old Firehouse. Proceeds benefit preservation and restoration efforts in Spring City, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While you are touring Spring City, be sure to drop by the Utah Heritage Foundation table at the Judge Jacob Johnson barn.
Antiques and artwork by well-known Spring City artists, including Osral Allred, Lee Bennion, Susan Gallacher, M'Lisa Paulsen, Doug Fryer, Kathleen Peterson, and Cassandria Parsons, among others, will be on sale at the Old Spring City School and in local galleries.
Breakfast and lunch will be served at the Spring City bowery by the local LDS ward. Breakfast is 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch is 12 noon until 1:30 p.m.
The Spring City Heritage Day Celebration is presented by the Friends of Spring City. For more detailed information on Spring City and the day's events, please check out their website at www.historicspringcity.org. Spring City is located just off Highway 89 between Mt. Pleasant and Ephraim, approximately a two-hour drive south of Salt Lake City.

National Preservation Conference Scholarships Available - Apply Today!
Diversity Scholarship Program
Since 1992, the Diversity Scholarship Program (DSP) has provided financial assistance (which can covers registration and shared lodging) to more than 1,100 individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds. The goal of the Diversity Scholarship Program is to increase the diversity of participants at the annual National Preservation Conference and in the preservation movement. The Program provides financial assistance to approximately 60 community leaders from diverse social, economic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds to attend the National Preservation Conference. Through interactive sessions, presentations, informal gatherings, and tours of the host city and surrounding areas, participants will learn the necessary tools to strengthen their commitment and effectiveness in preserving historic places and revitalizing communities.
The National Trust seeks culturally diverse applicants whose attendance at the Conference will benefit their communities and whose commitment to historic preservation will be reinforced by their participation. Recipients will have an opportunity to express their perspectives during the Conference and to take advantage of National Trust programs after the Conference.

May 8, 2009, Vol. 4, Issue 15 - Obama's FY 2010 Budget Boosts Historic Preservation Funding President Obama released his entire FY2010 budget on Thursday and provided overall funding of $12 billion for the Department of the Interior, including $77.675 million for the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) and $20 million for the Save America's Treasures (SAT) program. The proposed increase for the HPF is $8.691 million over FY'09 enacted levels and also includes an increased of +$4.315 million to $46.5 million for the States as well as an increase of +$1.052 million to the Tribes to $8.0 million. Preserve America received $3.175 million after being zeroed out of the FY'09 omnibus spending bill earlier this year.
